Every season brings a new set of "rules" to break — and this one is no different. In the first part of our Fall/Winter trend series (catch our reel if you haven't yet), we're unpacking three trends we think are actually worth your money: the brown spectrum, checks in every form, and — yes — bermuda shorts for fall. Here's how to wear them your way.
1. The Brown Spectrum
Brown isn't a single color this season, it's a whole world: think creamy latte, warm caramel, rich chestnut, deep chocolate and cognac. What makes it such a strong trend is how forgiving it is — brown reads warm or cool depending on the exact shade, so there's a version that works with your undertone, not against it.
Styling tip: don't be afraid to wear brown-on-brown. Layering two or three different shades of brown (a chocolate coat over a caramel knit, for example) creates instant depth without looking like you tried too hard. If full monochrome feels like a lot, ground it with cream or ecru, and let gold jewelry do the finishing work.
This is also a great trend to build a capsule around — brown pairs effortlessly with the rest of your wardrobe, which means every piece works harder for you.
2. Checks, Everywhere
Windowpane blazers, houndstooth blouses, tartan scarves — checks are back in every scale and every material this season. The trap most people fall into is wearing too much check at once. Our rule: pick one hero piece per outfit and let everything else stay solid.
A checked blazer over a plain black turtleneck. A houndstooth blouse under a solid-colored suit. A tartan scarf as the one statement moment against an otherwise simple outfit. The pattern gets to shine, and you don't end up looking like you're wearing a costume.
Texture is your friend here too — a wool check blazer against a silky scarf, or a crisp cotton check blouse under a soft knit, keeps the look rich instead of flat.
3. Bermuda for Fall
Bermuda shorts didn't leave with summer — they just got a wardrobe update. The trick to making them read as cold-weather-appropriate is proportion and layering: opaque tights (black or a rich brown to stay on-trend), knee-high boots, and an oversized knit or blazer on top to balance out the leg.
This is a genuinely flattering silhouette for more body types than you'd think, because you're controlling exactly where the eye lands — a longer top plus a knee-high boot creates one long, uninterrupted line. If you're unsure how bermuda works for your proportions specifically, this is exactly the kind of thing we love talking through in a styling consult.
