Everyone needs a couple of great T-shirts in their closet. Preferably in some basic colors, such as white, gray or navy to style your different looks. After all, a T-shirt is the ideal base for a casual look or to style down a more statement piece. As with jeans, it takes some time to find which T-shirt suits your figure and style.
Here are some things to consider when buying a T-shirt:
o The color. If cool colors suit you best, then you can opt for a bright white T-shirt. Do you look better with warm colors, then go for cream or ivory. Grey, navy or black T-shirts can complement your closet. Look for the color(s) that allow as many matches possible in your closet.
o The neckline. Are you slightly smaller, or have broader shoulders? Then choose a T-shirt with a rounded neckline or with a V-neck. If you want your T to be visible under your knit, make sure the collar is high enough.
o The sleeve length. If you like to accentuate your waistline, opt for a T-shirt with sleeves up to the elbow.
o Consider whether you prefer to wear fitted or oversized.
Some more tips for styling your T-shirt look:
o Finish your T-shirt with a necklace, ideal for a casual look.
o Use your T-shirt as a layer with, for example, a sweater or knit over it that shows the collar of your tshirt. That way you create depth in your look.
o Combine a cotton T-shirt with a silk skirt or pants. The combination of silk and cotton makes a nice contrast, both in fabrics and in style.
